Clarence Battery
Originally built in the late 1700’s, Clarence Battery was part of what was originally Fort George, being one of its outworks, and to this day it offers a superb view of St Peter Port, Herm and Sark.
Four gun mountings were constructed on the right face (to protect southerly approaches by sea), and 5 gun mountings on the left (north) such that crossing fire could be achieved in concert with the guns at Castle Cornet. Additions were made for 5 inch guns, expense magazine, shell stores and a guardroom, many of which can still be seen today, albeit during WWII the German forces made alterations to it.
